I just got preliminary word from Board Member Li Xingxing in Chengdu a couple of days ago, that there will be twelve to fourteen Yangjuan Primary School Graduates from 2005 and 2006 headed to colleges this fall. We don’t know the exact numbers or destinations yet, other than Sha Ziqing, a 2005 grad who chose to retake the College Entrance Exam this year, and was admitted to Southwest Petroleum University in Sichuan. Others are still awaiting their college admissions notices.
As you know from previous posts, the cost of college is very high now, averaging around ¥10,000, or $1600, for a year’s tuition, fees, room, board, and travel. Accordingly, we are hoping to raise our scholarships for college students to ¥2500, or $400 per student. Whether we can do so depends on the help of donors. If you would like to make a donation to the , you can give a full or half scholarship for $400 or $200, and we will put you in contact with a student who is receiving your help. If you can only afford a lesser amount right now, we are grateful for any donations.
We will keep you posted when we find out more about the college plans of other Yangjuan graduates.
